So I had accepted who I was. I actually owned being me. Yes I was finally open about being a gay man in my professional environment for the first time in my career.
From that acceptance I had an inspired thought, which led to action. This was to place a business advertisement in the gay community newspaper, the Sydney Star Observer. I advertised that I was an Investment Property Consultant and listed my contact details.
From that ad I had a call from a guy by the name of Michael Luca from a mortgage broking company. “We should meet”, he said. So on the 30 March 2005 (I have checked my diary from this time) we met for coffee.
It turned out that Michael was running a small fortnightly business networking breakfast which he invited me along to. I liked it very much, I connected with the attendees and, over time, built strong relationships and friendships.
Not only did Michael become a very dear friend, but through Michael, the mortgage broking network he introduced me to and the contacts I made at the breakfast networking meetings, I have been referred hundreds of clients, made many, many sales, and have made many dear friends.
I achieved the position of top sales performer in the last year I worked for this company and that gave me the confidence to set up Love Property, which eventually became my own company.
And you know the most fun thing, Michael works with me today in our office running his own mortgage broking business, Love Home Loans, alongside my business, Love Property. And I still attend the breakfasts to this very day.
All this has come from one inspired action.
Now thats what I call Big Magic!
