Keep an eye on the comms out!

Be careful what communication you put out to your clients, or in fact anyone. As some of you know I own a Real Estate business which involves Property Management. We outsource some of the inspection function to create efficiencies and allow growth of our business.

The company that does our routine inspections, and do an exceptional job for us, recently wanted to send out a letter stating, and I quote, “over recent years there has been an alarming rate of personal injury claims made by tenants against landlords and agents”. The idea was to get our owners to carry out a professional builders inspection for an extra layer of protection against this.

Now I had a huge reaction to that statement. I actually felt it in my body it was so strong. For me, this has never been our experience nor is it something we choose to attract into our business. I also reacted to it as the letter was coming from a place of fear. The reason so, by putting that out there, it is inviting or attracting that sort of thing into our business. So consequently that letter has not gone out.

We did write a new letter offering the same service, but phrased it by offering a professional builders report to check for any maintenance that may be useful to keep the property at its best value and condition from now and into the future.

This was coming from a proactive approach, essentially putting out what we want to create for us and for our clients.

So be careful what you’re communicating… make sure it’s set up to attract what you want.
