My first year… no Booze

On Sunday it will be 12 months since I have had a drink.

From someone that used to be real binge drinker and one that felt he needed alcohol to fit in socially, I never would have thought that this 12 months would be possible. But I tell you, it has been so easy and I have never felt better and more able to attend all the functions I like, completely sober.

You see this time last year I was on a retreat in Bali with my Mastermind group and the week I had a real bender of a night and on leaving for Bali I was still feeling the affects.

I knew something had to shift if I truly wanted to lead this abundant life, with health and wellbeing very high on my list of values.

On arrival in Bali it was announced that we were going into five days of silence. We would have breakout sessions where we could speak, otherwise it was just oneself and a journal. Of course the alcohol thing was very top of mind, so I started journalling. I got clear on my relationship with alcohol, how I had used it all of my adult life to fit in socially, how I also didn’t have an off switch and also, because of my childhood experiences, I had a deep fear of being around drunk people, so I became one.

Once I got clear on that I then needed to process whether I could still drink but moderately. Every time I asked this question of myself, my higher self, my intuition, kept coming back with the response “No, your body, your higher self no longer wants you to drink”.

So I shared it with the group and I finally committed to not drinking ever again. It was a huge moment but a real commitment to myself that has been so easy to keep simply because of the journey, the process and the commitment I went through.

I love not drinking, it has been so freeing for me. Instead of not going to things for fear of drinking too much and having a hangover, I go to more functions than ever before, I am more present in those social situations, I have deeper connections and, believe it or not, I have more fun and to top it off I feel fabulous the next day with no hangover and I remember everything the next day The only negative is the staying power I don’t feel like kicking on till all hours like I used to (mainly to drink more).

If you feel you drink more than you are happy with, I have a process that I can work with you on to get to your truth around alcohol whether its to reduce your consumption or if its in your truth to let it go. We are all different.
